CEN.GRAND DSDAC 1.0 STANDARD DAC

The Cen.Grand DSDAC 1.0 Standard is a high-end DAC built around a proprietary DSD conversion architecture rather than a conventional off-the-shelf DAC chip. Incoming PCM and lower-rate DSD signals can be processed and converted up to DSD1024 using Cen.Grand’s FPGA-based digital platform, while native high-rate DSD can also be handled directly.

DSDAC 1.0 FPGA-BASED DSD CONVERSION

At the core of the DSDAC 1.0 is a 1-bit conversion structure using FPGA-controlled shift registers and discrete resistor arrays. Cen.Grand developed the platform around three key technologies: high-precision DSD upsampling, synchronous direct clocking and clock replacement. The goal is to perform digital processing and conversion without relying on a conventional integrated DAC chip.

SYNCHRONOUS DIRECT CLOCK TECHNOLOGY

The internal femtosecond clock is sent directly to the conversion shift register without an intermediate frequency-divider stage. This architecture is designed to reduce additional clock-processing stages between the oscillator and the conversion section, allowing the local clock to operate as directly as possible within the DAC.

CLOCK REPLACEMENT & DIGITAL ISOLATION

The DSDAC 1.0 uses its own local clock rather than relying on the incoming source clock during conversion. USB is handled by an XMOS XU208 interface with galvanic isolation, while AES/EBU, coaxial, BNC and optical inputs provide flexible integration with transports, streamers and other digital sources.

DSD512 USB & DSD64 OVER SPDIF

USB supports PCM up to 384kHz and native DSD512 input. AES/EBU, coaxial, BNC and optical inputs support PCM up to 192kHz and DSD64 via DoP. Internally, compatible incoming material can be processed at higher DSD rates, including DSD1024 conversion.

BALANCED OUTPUT & VARIABLE LEVEL CONTROL

The DAC provides both balanced XLR and single-ended RCA analogue outputs, with 5.0Vrms available from XLR and 2.5Vrms from RCA. A digital volume range from -70dB to 0dB also allows the DSDAC 1.0 to be used directly with suitable power amplification when appropriate.
