GUSTARD U18 DIGITAL INTERFACE
The Gustard U18 is a high-performance USB digital interface designed to bridge a computer or USB audio source with an external DAC. Rather than performing digital-to-analogue conversion itself, the U18 converts incoming USB audio to dedicated I²S, AES/EBU, coaxial and optical digital outputs.
XMOS XU216 WITH GALVANIC ISOLATION
At the input stage, the U18 uses a 16-core XMOS XU216 USB interface. A 200Mbps isolation stage electrically separates the USB source from the downstream digital circuitry, helping prevent ground-related noise and interference from being carried from a computer into the audio system.
PRECISION CLOCKING & SIGNAL PROCESSING
Two Accusilicon AS338 oscillators work with Gustard's K2 ultra-low-noise clock synthesizer, while an Altera MAX II CPLD reshapes the isolated digital signal before output. The clock circuitry uses low-noise LT3045 regulation, and a 10MHz BNC input allows integration with a compatible external reference clock.
I²S UP TO PCM 768KHZ & DSD512
The HDMI-format I²S output supports PCM up to 32-bit / 768kHz and Native DSD512. Four selectable I²S pin configurations improve compatibility with DACs from different manufacturers. AES/EBU and coaxial outputs support PCM up to 24-bit / 384kHz and DoP up to DSD128, while optical supports PCM up to 24-bit / 192kHz and DoP64.
FLEXIBLE DIGITAL SYSTEM INTEGRATION
The U18 can be used when a DAC's I²S, AES/EBU or coaxial input is preferred over direct USB connection. A dedicated Word Clock output is also provided for compatible digital equipment, giving the U18 additional flexibility in more complex digital systems.
