Pair Gaia 15th with the Terminator 15th for a reference-level Denafrips system with compatible I²S and AES connectivity.
The Denafrips Gaia 15th is the flagship digital-to-digital converter (DDC) in the Denafrips 15th Anniversary range. Developed for high-performance digital audio systems, it combines proprietary FPGA processing, adaptive FIFO buffering, precision OCXO reclocking and galvanically isolated digital circuitry in a substantial aluminium chassis.
Designed to interface between digital sources and an external DAC, Gaia 15th accepts USB, coaxial, optical and AES/EBU signals and provides a choice of digital outputs, including I²S, AES/EBU and S/PDIF. Its advanced power supply and clock architecture make it a natural partner for demanding reference-level audio systems.
Gaia 15th is designed to receive digital audio from a computer, network streamer, music server or disc transport and deliver it to a compatible external DAC through a suitable digital connection.
Unlike a conventional DAC, Gaia does not convert digital audio into analogue sound. Instead, it provides dedicated digital interface conversion, signal buffering, electrical isolation and reclocking.
This allows users to combine digital components with different connection formats while benefiting from the processing architecture developed by Denafrips.
At the heart of Gaia 15th is Denafrips' proprietary FPGA digital signal processing architecture. Incoming digital audio is managed through an adaptive First-In-First-Out (FIFO) buffer before being reclocked for transmission to the connected DAC.
This arrangement helps separate the timing of the incoming digital source from the locally controlled output stage, reducing sensitivity to source-related timing fluctuations.
The processing system is designed to deliver stable digital signals while preserving the original audio data.
Gaia 15th incorporates a high-performance oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) as part of its internal digital clock architecture. By maintaining a controlled operating temperature, OCXO technology provides improved frequency stability compared with conventional crystal oscillators.
The unit also forms part of the Denafrips external clock ecosystem, offering dedicated clock input connectivity for compatible reference clock signals.
External clock integration requires the correct reference frequencies, signal characteristics and connections. Conventional 10MHz master clocks must not be assumed compatible without verification.
Electrical interference can travel between connected digital components through their signal and ground connections. Gaia 15th incorporates dedicated galvanic isolation circuitry, including optocoupler-based isolation, to reduce the transfer of unwanted conducted interference between sensitive internal sections.
Combined with the FPGA processing and reclocking architecture, this design provides a carefully controlled environment for digital audio transmission.
The resulting benefits depend on the connected source, DAC and overall electrical environment.
Gaia 15th accepts digital audio through USB Type-B, coaxial S/PDIF, Toslink optical and AES/EBU connections, making it suitable for systems with multiple digital sources.
Its digital output architecture includes coaxial S/PDIF, optical, AES/EBU and I²S connectivity, allowing connection to a wide range of compatible external DACs.
I²S transmission can offer a direct digital audio interface to suitable DACs, but HDMI I²S pin assignments are not universally standardised. Compatibility must be confirmed when combining components from different manufacturers.
Gaia 15th features Denafrips' proprietary USB audio interface based on the STM32F466 ARM microcontroller. This dedicated architecture supports high-resolution digital audio transmission from compatible USB sources.
The Gaia platform supports high-resolution PCM and DSD operation, with the maximum supported sampling rate depending on the selected digital input, output and the receiving DAC.
For reliable operation, the source software, digital interface settings and external DAC must support the chosen audio format.
A major feature of the Gaia 15th Anniversary Edition is its upgraded power supply, featuring two independently implemented 80VA-rated O-core transformers.
Precision transformer winding, extensive filtering and multiple low-noise linear regulation stages provide dedicated power to the internal digital processing and clock circuitry.
The substantial power supply is designed to minimise electrical interaction between sensitive circuits while maintaining stable operating conditions.
Gaia 15th features a substantial, precision-machined aluminium chassis with a carefully finished anodised surface. Its solid mechanical construction provides a rigid enclosure for the clock, digital processing and power supply sections.
Premium internal components, custom capacitors and carefully arranged circuit sections reflect its flagship positioning within the Denafrips digital interface range.
Black and Silver finish options allow Gaia 15th to complement a wide range of premium audio systems.
Gaia 15th is particularly well suited to systems combining a high-quality network transport, CD transport or computer source with a reference external DAC.
It can be paired with compatible Denafrips DACs such as Pontus 15th, Venus 15th and Terminator 15th, as well as selected DACs from other manufacturers.
Users can choose AES/EBU, coaxial or compatible I²S connectivity according to their system requirements. External clock integration offers further possibilities where supported by the connected components.
Gaia 15th is a digital interface only. It does not include analogue audio outputs, network streaming functionality or a headphone amplifier.
Covered by a 3-Year EU Warranty, with Free EU Shipping on orders over €150 and our Best Price Promise.
