The Fosi Audio ZH3 is a compact DAC, balanced headphone amplifier and preamplifier designed as a flexible control centre for desktop and Hi-Fi systems. It combines digital and analogue inputs with powerful headphone amplification, balanced XLR outputs and volume-controlled preamp functionality.
AK4493SEQ DAC & XMOS XU316 USB
Digital conversion is based on the AKM AK4493SEQ DAC, paired with an XMOS XU316 USB interface. USB playback supports PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512, while optical and coaxial inputs support PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz.
FULLY BALANCED HEADPHONE AMPLIFICATION
The ZH3 uses a fully balanced amplification circuit with four OPA1612 operational amplifiers. Its 4.4mm balanced headphone output delivers up to 2570mW per channel into 32Ī©, while the 6.35mm single-ended output provides up to 640mW per channel into 32Ī©. Three gain levels allow matching with headphones and IEMs across the specified 16ā300Ī© range.
DAC, PREAMP OR HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER
USB-C, coaxial, optical and stereo RCA inputs allow the ZH3 to accept both digital and analogue sources. Balanced XLR and RCA outputs provide straightforward integration with active loudspeakers or external power amplifiers, while the analogue RCA input also allows the ZH3 to operate as a dedicated headphone amplifier.
EQ, FILTERS & SYSTEM CONTROL
Bass and treble adjustment, three gain settings and six digital filters provide additional control, while the tone-control circuit can be bypassed when not required. The 1.5-inch circular LCD provides clear operating information, and 12V trigger input and output allow coordinated power control with compatible components.
COMPACT DESKTOP SYSTEM HUB
With separate headphone, line and preamp operating options, the ZH3 can form the centre of a compact headphone system, active-speaker setup or a system using separate power amplifiers. USB Audio Class 1.0 and 2.0 modes further extend compatibility with computers and supported gaming devices.
