CAYIN CS-55CD TUBE CD PLAYER & USB DAC

The Cayin CS-55CD is a high-fidelity CD player combining conventional digital disc playback with a vacuum tube analogue output stage. Built around a Texas Instruments PCM5101 digital-to-analogue converter and a 12AU7 tube, it offers a practical way to enjoy physical music collections while providing additional digital connectivity for compatible audio systems.

12AU7 VACUUM TUBE OUTPUT STAGE

The CS-55CD uses a 12AU7 vacuum tube in its analogue output circuitry, supported by high-quality operational amplifier stages. This hybrid architecture combines digital conversion with traditional valve-based signal amplification.

The internal circuit is designed to provide a dedicated stereo line-level output for connection to a compatible integrated amplifier or preamplifier.

TEXAS INSTRUMENTS PCM5101 DAC

Digital-to-analogue conversion is handled by a Texas Instruments PCM5101 DAC. This integrated conversion stage allows the CS-55CD to operate as a complete CD source without requiring a separate external DAC.

The analogue signal is delivered through a stereo RCA output pair, with a nominal output level of 2.0V.

HIGH-RESOLUTION USB DAC FUNCTION

The USB-equipped CS-55CD incorporates an asynchronous USB 2.0 audio interface with support for PCM playback up to 32-bit/384kHz, allowing a compatible computer to use the player as an external digital-to-analogue converter.

USB Audio Class 1.0 and 2.0 compatibility provides additional flexibility. The USB implementation is particularly useful for listeners who want to combine a conventional CD collection with computer-based music playback.

OPTICAL AND COAXIAL DIGITAL OUTPUTS

In addition to its analogue RCA connection, the CS-55CD provides optical Toslink and coaxial S/PDIF digital outputs. These allow CD playback to be routed to a compatible external DAC when required.

A substantial toroidal power transformer supplies the internal circuitry, while a vacuum fluorescent display provides clear information about playback status and track selection.

COMPACT DESIGN AND EVERYDAY OPERATION

The CS-55CD features a heavy-duty chassis with a thick aluminium front panel, available in Black or Silver. Its compact 360mm width makes it suitable for systems where a conventional full-width CD player would occupy unnecessary space.

A supplied infrared remote allows convenient playback control. The design also complements Cayin's compact integrated amplifiers, while remaining compatible with suitable line-level inputs from other manufacturers.
