TOPPING D50 III BALANCED DAC

The Topping D50 III is a compact, fully balanced desktop DAC and digital preamplifier combining dual ESS ES9039Q2M converters, advanced USB processing, Bluetooth connectivity and configurable parametric equalisation. Designed for modern desktop and stereo systems, it delivers high-resolution conversion with both balanced and single-ended analogue outputs.

DUAL ESS ES9039Q2M DAC ARCHITECTURE

The D50 III uses two ESS ES9039Q2M DAC chips, with an independent converter dedicated to each stereo channel. Topping's optimised current-to-voltage conversion stage supports low-noise analogue performance while retaining the flexibility of a compact desktop design.

The manufacturer specifies a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 132dB through the balanced outputs. Separate balanced and RCA connections allow the D50 III to integrate with a wide range of headphone amplifiers, active loudspeakers and conventional Hi-Fi components.

HIGH-RESOLUTION XMOS USB AUDIO

An XMOS XU316 USB interface supports PCM playback up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512 from compatible computers, streamers and playback software. Additional coaxial and optical digital inputs accommodate CD transports and other conventional digital audio sources.

Two USB-C connections provide flexible installation. One handles digital audio data, while the other accepts a separate 5V power supply. This allows the DAC to operate with an independent power source when preferred.

10-BAND PARAMETRIC EQUALISER

The D50 III supports Topping Tune, a software platform providing 10-band parametric equalisation for compatible USB PCM playback. Users can configure frequency, gain and filter parameters to refine system response or apply personalised correction curves.

EQ profiles can be saved and recalled. Parametric equalisation is limited to USB PCM signals at supported sampling rates and does not apply to every digital input or high-resolution audio format.

BLUETOOTH 5.1 WITH LDAC

A Qualcomm QCC5125 Bluetooth receiver enables convenient wireless listening from compatible phones, tablets and computers. Supported codecs include LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC.

For wired playback, the D50 III also offers selectable digital reconstruction filters and straightforward input selection through its front-panel controls and supplied remote.

BALANCED OUTPUTS & PREAMPLIFIER MODE

A pair of balanced 6.35mm TRS outputs provides an alternative to the conventional stereo RCA outputs. The D50 III can operate in fixed-level DAC mode or variable-output preamplifier mode, making it suitable for direct connection to compatible active speakers and power amplifiers.

Selectable analogue output levels help match the DAC to downstream equipment, while a 12V trigger output can coordinate power control with compatible amplifiers.

COMPACT ALUMINIUM DESIGN

The precisely machined aluminium enclosure measures only 125mm wide. An OLED display and multifunction joystick provide access to operating settings without requiring a computer.

The D50 III is an excellent foundation for a compact balanced system. It works particularly well with dedicated headphone amplifiers or compact stereo power amplifiers, while avoiding the size and complexity of larger full-width components.
