The Soncoz SGA1 is a fully balanced headphone amplifier and analogue stereo preamplifier designed for demanding desktop and Hi-Fi listening systems. Combining precision volume and gain adjustment, versatile balanced and single-ended connectivity and a carefully engineered linear power supply, it offers two essential audio functions in one compact chassis.

FULLY BALANCED HEADPHONE AMPLIFICATION

The SGA1 offers three front-panel headphone connections: a 4-pin balanced XLR output, a 4.4mm balanced output and a conventional 6.35mm single-ended output.

Its balanced headphone stage delivers up to 840mW into 300 ohms under the manufacturer's specified measurement conditions, providing useful drive capability for compatible full-size headphones.

PRECISION MUSES72320 VOLUME CONTROL

The SGA1 uses MUSES72320 electronic volume-control circuitry for precise analogue signal adjustment. Volume can be set from -110.75dB to 0dB, with 0.25dB steps at unity gain.

Independent gain adjustment provides additional flexibility when matching sensitive earphones and higher-impedance headphones. The unit remembers volume and gain settings for different input and output combinations.

BALANCED AND SINGLE-ENDED ANALOGUE INPUTS

A stereo pair of balanced XLR inputs and a stereo pair of RCA inputs allow connection to external DACs, network streamers and other line-level analogue sources.

The SGA1 is a purely analogue component, with no built-in DAC or streaming functionality. A suitable digital-to-analogue converter is required for digital music sources.

DEDICATED STEREO PREAMPLIFIER OUTPUTS

In addition to driving headphones, the SGA1 functions as a stereo preamplifier through balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs.

Connect it to a compatible stereo power amplifier or powered loudspeakers to build a compact music system with adjustable volume and input selection. The preamplifier delivers nominal output levels of 4Vrms through XLR and 2Vrms through RCA at the specified unity settings.

LOW-NOISE ANALOGUE CIRCUITRY

The SGA1 employs selected OPA1611, OPA1622, OPA1641 and OPA1661 operational amplifiers across its input, output and buffer stages.

This architecture is designed to provide low distortion, high dynamic range and accurate channel matching, whether the amplifier is used for personal headphone listening or as a stereo control centre.

CUSTOM LINEAR POWER SUPPLY

A specially designed toroidal transformer incorporates multilayer magnetic shielding to reduce interference from the mains supply.

Linear voltage regulators and two 8200µF ELNA capacitors contribute to stable power delivery. Total power consumption is specified at less than 10W.

INTUITIVE MULTIFUNCTION CONTROL

A single front-panel rotary control manages volume, gain, input selection and output mode. The illuminated display clearly indicates operating parameters, while memory functions recall preferred settings.

The SGA1 is available in Black and Silver finishes and is a natural visual companion to Soncoz DAC components.
