SMSL VMV D1SE BALANCED DAC

The SMSL VMV D1SE is a premium high-resolution digital-to-analogue converter built around the flagship ESS ES9038PRO DAC, a sophisticated XMOS USB interface and fully balanced analogue output circuitry. Designed for demanding Hi-Fi systems, it combines precise digital conversion, flexible connectivity and exceptional measured performance in an elegant aluminium chassis.

FLAGSHIP ESS ES9038PRO DAC

At the heart of the D1SE is a single ESS ES9038PRO eight-channel DAC, configured for high-performance stereo conversion. Its advanced HyperStream II architecture supports excellent dynamic range, extremely low distortion and accurate reproduction of musical detail.

An ESS ES9311 low-noise voltage regulator supplies the converter, while carefully selected audio components contribute to the D1SE's refined analogue output stage.

HIGH-RESOLUTION PCM AND DSD PLAYBACK

The XMOS XU216 asynchronous USB interface supports PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512 from compatible digital sources.

Optical and coaxial inputs support PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz and DSD64 via DoP, providing convenient connections for CD transports, televisions and other compatible digital equipment.

HDMI-I²S DIGITAL INPUT

A dedicated HDMI-style I²S input allows connection to compatible digital transports and digital-to-digital converters. The D1SE also provides configurable I²S signal settings for improved compatibility with different source devices.

I²S over HDMI uses the HDMI connector for digital audio signalling and is not a standard HDMI video or HDMI ARC input. Pin compatibility must be checked before connection.

BLUETOOTH 5.0 WITH aptX

An integrated Bluetooth 5.0 receiver enables convenient wireless music playback from compatible smartphones, tablets and other Bluetooth sources.

Support for aptX, AAC and SBC provides flexibility across different devices, while the supplied external antenna helps maintain reliable wireless reception.

MQA AND MQA-CD DECODING

The D1SE supports MQA decoding through compatible digital inputs, including playback of MQA-CD material through supported S/PDIF connections.

Its decoding functionality complements conventional high-resolution PCM and DSD playback, allowing users to enjoy a wide range of digital audio formats.

BALANCED XLR AND RCA AUDIO OUTPUTS

The D1SE provides both balanced stereo XLR and unbalanced stereo RCA outputs for connection to compatible integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers and active loudspeakers.

Digital volume adjustment allows the unit to serve as a DAC with adjustable output level when used with suitable downstream equipment.

LOW-JITTER DIGITAL PROCESSING

SMSL incorporates optimised clock circuitry and adjustable digital phase-locked-loop processing to minimise the influence of input jitter. Selectable digital filters allow further adjustment of the converter's response characteristics.

A clear colour display provides information about the selected input, sample rate and operating settings. The included remote control enables convenient adjustment from the listening position.

PREMIUM POWER SUPPLY AND CONSTRUCTION

An internal shielded power supply combines a toroidal transformer with low-noise regulation for the sensitive DAC and analogue circuits.
