The Matrix Audio TS-1 combines a high-resolution network streamer, dual-AKM DAC and fully balanced discrete headphone amplifier in one elegant component. Designed for headphone enthusiasts and modern stereo systems, it offers premium streaming, extensive connectivity and powerful personal listening without requiring multiple separate devices.

DUAL AKM VELVET SOUND CONVERSION

Two AKM AK4493SEQ DAC chips operate in a dual-mono configuration, with independent conversion for the left and right channels. Dedicated low-noise power regulation and separated analogue and digital circuitry help maintain signal integrity.

Dual ultra-low-phase-noise femtosecond clocks provide independent references for the 44.1kHz and 48kHz sampling-rate families, with FPGA-controlled clock management.

FULLY BALANCED DISCRETE HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER

The TS-1 features a high-bias, fully balanced discrete headphone amplifier with 4.4mm balanced and 6.35mm single-ended outputs. The balanced connection delivers up to 1000mW into 33 ohms, while the 6.35mm output provides up to 1400mW into 33 ohms, both measured at 1% THD.

Selectable headphone output settings allow the amplifier to accommodate sensitive in-ear monitors and demanding full-size headphones. Its low output impedance helps maintain effective control of compatible headphones.

ROON READY STREAMING AND WI-FI 6

Matrix Audio's MA Player platform provides integrated access to TIDAL, Qobuz, HIGHRESAUDIO and internet radio. Roon Ready, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2 and DLNA/UPnP provide flexible ways to enjoy music.

Gigabit Ethernet and dual-band Wi-Fi 6 connectivity allow convenient network installation. The MA Remote application provides music browsing, library management and playback control.

HDMI ARC AND VERSATILE AUDIO INPUTS

HDMI ARC enables stereo audio playback from a compatible television. USB audio, coaxial and optical digital inputs accommodate computers, CD transports and other digital sources, while a stereo RCA analogue input supports an additional line-level component.

The USB audio input supports PCM up to 24-bit/768kHz and native DSD512. Other digital inputs support PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz.

BALANCED OUTPUTS AND SUBWOOFER INTEGRATION

Stereo balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA line outputs allow the TS-1 to feed active loudspeakers, integrated amplifiers or power amplifiers. Adjustable output levels provide convenient volume control.

A dedicated subwoofer output, with a low-frequency response specified at 150Hz (-3dB), follows the main output volume. This makes it easy to build a compact 2.1-channel system using compatible active loudspeakers and a powered subwoofer.

LOCAL STORAGE AND EXTERNAL POWER UPGRADE

An underside M.2 NVMe SSD slot provides optional internal music storage, while two USB 3.0 ports support compatible external drives and USB optical drives. NAS access and SMB sharing offer additional music-library flexibility.

The TS-1 includes an internal switching power supply and a separate 12V DC input for a compatible external linear power supply. Connecting a suitable external supply automatically gives DC power priority, offering a convenient future upgrade path.

INTUITIVE CONTROL AND PREMIUM FINISHES

The front-panel display, MA Remote app and included infrared remote provide convenient operation. Available in Titanium Silver and Obsidian Black, the compact aluminium chassis is suitable for both desktop listening and dedicated Hi-Fi systems.
