CAYIN CS-100DAC DUAL TIMBRE DAC & PREAMPLIFIER
The Cayin CS-100DAC is a high-end digital-to-analogue converter combining dual ESS SABRE DAC architecture with selectable vacuum tube and solid-state analogue output stages. Designed for versatile two-channel Hi-Fi systems, it offers six digital inputs, balanced and single-ended outputs, high-resolution PCM and DSD decoding, and variable-level preamplifier operation.
DUAL ESS ES9038PRO CONVERSION
Two ESS ES9038PRO DAC chips operate in mono mode, with independent digital-to-analogue conversion for each stereo channel. The fully balanced architecture incorporates dedicated current-to-voltage conversion circuitry and precision Accusilicon oscillators for accurate digital clocking.
The CS-100DAC supports PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512 through USB and I²S, accommodating high-resolution music sources and compatible digital transports.
SELECTABLE TUBE AND SOLID-STATE TIMBRES
A defining feature of the CS-100DAC is its selectable analogue output architecture. The vacuum tube stage uses four 6922EH tubes, providing an alternative signal path to the dedicated solid-state buffer.
Both timbres are available through RCA and balanced XLR outputs. This allows listeners to select between two analogue circuit configurations without changing the DAC or external equipment.
SIX DIGITAL INPUTS AND SELECTABLE FILTERS
Digital connectivity includes asynchronous USB Audio, HDMI-based I²S, AES/EBU, BNC coaxial, RCA coaxial and optical Toslink inputs.
The CS-100DAC also provides seven selectable PCM digital filters and four DSD filters, allowing adjustment of the conversion characteristics for different source material and listening preferences.
The I²S input requires compatible HDMI-I²S signal mapping and should not be confused with a conventional HDMI audio input.
FIXED OUTPUT AND PREAMPLIFIER OPERATION
Both RCA and balanced XLR connections support fixed-level LINE OUT and variable-level PRE OUT operation. The latter allows the CS-100DAC to function as a digital preamplifier, controlling compatible power amplifiers or active loudspeakers directly.
The output voltage and impedance differ between the tube and solid-state circuits. Dedicated power supply sections and extensive mute protection help maintain stable operation when switching between operating modes.
PREMIUM POWER SUPPLY AND CONTROL
Separate toroidal power transformers supply the digital and analogue sections, supported by multiple low-noise regulation stages. The machined aluminium chassis provides structural rigidity and shielding against external interference.
A 3.95-inch AMOLED display presents input, playback and operating information, while the supplied infrared remote allows convenient control of input selection, timbre, filters and output settings.
