Explore open-back planar magnetic listening with 97mm drivers and a balanced 4.4mm connection to the DX5 II.
The Topping DX5 II is a fully balanced desktop DAC, headphone amplifier and preamplifier combining dual ESS ES9039Q2M conversion, Topping's X-Hybrid headphone amplification and flexible digital processing. Designed for headphone listening and compact Hi-Fi systems, it provides high-resolution USB playback, Bluetooth connectivity, configurable parametric equalisation and balanced analogue outputs in a compact aluminium enclosure.
Two ESS ES9039Q2M DAC chips provide independent conversion for the left and right channels. This dual-DAC arrangement supports balanced analogue output and delivers a manufacturer-specified signal-to-noise ratio of 132dB through XLR.
The DX5 II can operate as a fixed-output DAC or a variable-output preamplifier, allowing direct connection to integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers and active loudspeakers with suitable line-level inputs.
The newly developed X-Hybrid amplifier combines discrete input and output stages with an active gain stage. Its fully balanced four-channel architecture delivers up to 7,600mW per channel into 16Ī©, or 6,400mW into 32Ī©, under the manufacturer's maximum-power test conditions.
Three headphone outputs are provided: 6.35mm single-ended, 4.4mm balanced and four-pin XLR balanced. Two gain settings and precise volume adjustment make the DX5 II suitable for a wide range of full-size headphones and compatible sensitive earphones.
The DX5 II incorporates a configurable 10-band parametric equaliser through Topping Tune software. Users can adjust individual frequencies, gain and bandwidth to compensate for headphone response or personal listening preferences.
Custom EQ settings can be saved for convenient use. Parametric EQ is available for supported USB, coaxial, optical and Bluetooth signals, with processing limits depending on the selected input.
The USB input supports PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512. Coaxial and optical inputs provide connections for conventional digital transports, while Bluetooth supports LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, AAC and SBC codecs.
Balanced XLR and single-ended RCA outputs support fixed-level DAC operation or volume-controlled preamplifier use. The unit also provides 12V trigger input and output connections for convenient power integration.
A 2-inch colour display provides selectable signal information, VU meter and spectrum visualisations. The front-panel controls and included remote allow convenient access to inputs, volume and operating settings.
Measuring just 190mm wide, the DX5 II is well suited to desktop systems where space is limited. Its headphone amplification, balanced line outputs and built-in EQ allow it to serve as the central audio component for computer-based listening and compact stereo setups.
