PREAMP LINESTAGE EX-P27

The EX-P27 is centered around a fully discrete input and output stage, which is True Class-A biased.

The EX Series was designed to deliver sound quality with a balanced mid-range and smooth extension on both ends, including high and low extension.

The EX-P27 is rich in tonal quality, details, and high resolution. It also boasts a silky smooth volume control due to its discrete R2R volume control, which is renowned for its precision and accurate volume adjustment using precision-matched resistors.


RESISTOR LADDER VOLUME CONTROL

The EX-P27 distinguishes itself from most preamps that typically use a potentiometer for volume control. Instead, it employs a cutting-edge microprocessor-controlled, relay-based R2R steps attenuator that provides ultra-precise and linear volume control across multiple steps.

This allows for fine adjustments to the volume level, making it an excellent choice for late-night listening or any situation where precise control is required.

QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OVER COST

The primary objective behind the analog volume control design of the EX-P27 preamp was to deliver a low noise, low distortion, detailed, and uncolored sound reproduction. This goal has been successfully achieved through the use of a relay-controlled attenuator, which employs multiple relays and resistors to attenuate the volume. Although the switching of the relays, at certain steps, may result in a low audible pop/click sound, this is completely normal and does not pose any harm to the amplifier or loudspeakers.

To attain the highest level of transparency and sound quality, the KINKI STUDIO EX-P27 incorporates a highly acclaimed precision multistep relay-controlled attenuator, coupled with precision hand-matched resistors that have long endurance.

This combination ensures that the design goal of reproducing the most accurate and transparent sound quality has been met, delivering a listening experience that is sure to please even the most discerning audiophiles.


QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OVER COST

The EX-P7 preamp incorporates an extremely high-cost 0.2µm gold-plated printed circuit board (PCB), which is indicative of the designer’s in-depth understanding of the limitations posed by general circuit boards’ fine contact area.

In order to overcome this challenge, the designer has taken several measures, such as increasing the soldered area at each solder joint and incorporating as much shielding as possible, to ensure optimal performance.

Moreover, to prevent any interference between the Left and Right channel power supplies, the EX-P7 is equipped with two AMPLIMO transformers that are made in the UK, one for each channel. This design choice ensures that the power supply for each channel remains separate, thereby improving the channel separation.

Additionally, the EX-P7 is designed with a dual-mono configuration, housed within a single chassis, to provide an even more superior listening experience.

REDESIGNED LINESTAGE WITH HT BYPASS

The EX-P27 preamplifier has been updated with a redesigned linestage that produces a more full-bodied mid-range sound. This updated version also includes three toroidal encapsulated transformers, one for powering the display, one for the volume control, and one for the buffer and amplification stages. This design ensures that the power does not interfere with each other, resulting in improved channel separation. The EX-P27 is an essential dual mono design housed in a single chassis.

In addition to the updated design, the EX-P27 also features an HT Bypass Input located at the left rear panel. This feature allows users to connect an external preamplifier to the same power amplifier, such as an AV preamplifier. The HT Bypass mode can be enabled using the remote control, which bypasses the EX-P27 preamplifier’s volume/gain controls. This allows the signal from the connected preamp at the HT Bypass terminal to pass through the EX-P27 directly to the amplifier.


CRAFTED TO PERFECTION

The three toroid transformers are installed within a CNC-machined aluminum enclosure, and the entire chassis of the EX-P27 preamp is constructed from 8-10mm thick anodized aluminum block.

This design ensures the elimination of unwanted electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) that could be induced from the surrounding equipment. As a result, the EX-P7 preamp provides superior sound quality, with greater clarity, precision, and detail.

Kinki Studio’s design philosophy was focused on achieving both neutrality and musicality. The goal was to produce a sound signature that was rich in tonal quality, provided vivid sound imaging, details, high resolution, and dynamic range.

This was achieved through the careful selection of high-quality components, thoughtful design, and meticulous tuning. The resulting sound signature is unique to KINKI STUDIO‘s gear and represents the pinnacle of their engineering prowess.
